RADIO GAGA

"All we hear is Radio ga ga.
Radio goo goo.
Radio ga ga.
All we hear is Radio ga ga.
Radio blah blah.
Radio, what's new?
Radio, someone still loves you."

Amplitude Modulation radio

and my influences in music span around five decades and so years.

Boy, what a ride! and moving forward.

Generation Timeline

I.     Music (growing years)

My childhood memories brings me back to an era where the radio is literally, king in terms of global use and is secondary to television as one form of human's past time.

I would usually tune in the radio, and listen to ...

the radio, The United States Air Force base at a place called "John Hay," which was a former American-managed facility.

Visiting American Armed forces/enlisted personnel/ex-pats and were also a residence of broadcasting facilities of
the Voice of America which was then located in the former John Hay Air Station.

In some areas, such as the Philippines, U.S. servicemen could listen to English language programming directed at
Western civilians working in the area.

I am one of the radio fans that would listen to songs playing on the AM radio

Thus, I was constantly updated with the lastest Western/U.S.A.
(without actually buying a one.)

Then came FM music, e.g., American Top 40 hosted by the famous broadcaster Casey Kasem. (deceased).

II.    My Music Influences - '70s, '80s, '90,s  up to the present time.

Surreal as it was,
I remembered watching
rock concerts of the following bands in a local theater in the city where I live.

The Song Remains The Same by Led Zepplin

In 1976, Led Zeppelin

In 1978, The Who, in "The Kids Are Alright."

The 70's era was in my opinion the real-deal and pretty trippy.

And I just noticed when I achieved self-enlightenment around 1995, that I was then being sublimely infused with American/British music starting in my young psyche, or even when I was in my mother's womb.

Enter the '80s.

Whilst I loved music, the era was the XXX '80s.

In January 14, 1980, Rush release Permanent Waves, which eventually becomes the band's fifth platinum album.

I still clearly remember in the past about my grandfather and my uncle playing an acoustic guitar.  However, no one taught me how to play one.

My uncle bought me an unbranded acoustic (nylon string) guitar. I bought a songbook, which contained a chord chart, and started from there.

Then whilst in high school, a music subject kind of made it a mandatory to learn the guitar, which i did.

My College Days

I got to use an SG Gibson (copy) care of Ruben, my friend and former band mate in college.

Getting serious with gear

III.  Bass Gear (Past)

Active basses

Two decades ago,  I got hold of 4-string active bass which was an Ibanez around CY 2000.

I sold this and upgraded to a 5-string bass when I was playing in club scenes.

My first 5-string active bass was a Washburn Bantam XB-500.

Later, I sold to this bass to a religious worship bassist when I stopped club gigs.

I used a 5-string Ibanez Soundgear...

However, I retired the gear due to a bass neck break dysfunction.

V.    Picking Up the Pieces

With each step I take, every day becomes a very interesting journey in music.

Picking up the pieces of musical influences starting from the past and bringing it with you in the present to take fruition is a rewarding experience.

Music is dynamic...

I will be presenting in my next blog post the environment where I situate the music instruments/gears/accessories.
